Short answer

The Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy is an Omega Speedmaster Professional that honors NASA's Silver Snoopy Award. Omega made two tribute references: 311.32.42.30.04.003 in 2015, limited to 1,970 pieces, and 310.32.42.50.02.001 in 2020. Replica versions of both exist. Copies match the case outline and dial layout. They use third-party chronograph movements, carry no Omega warranty, and cannot reproduce the animated caseback of the 2020 model.

Why the Snoopy sits on a Speedmaster

Apollo 13 launched on April 11, 1970. An oxygen tank in the service module exploded on April 13. The crew shut down the command module and moved into the lunar module. To return to a free-return path, the crew fired the lunar module descent engine for 14 seconds. The crew timed that burn on a Speedmaster. NASA gave Omega the Silver Snoopy Award in 1970 for the timing role.

The Silver Snoopy Award is a NASA honor. Astronauts present the pin. The pin shows Snoopy in a space suit and is made of silver. NASA awards it for work that improves flight safety or mission success. It is one of the agency's highest crew-facing honors.

What replica versions get right and wrong

Case diameter, lug width and strap fit are easy to copy and are often correct on paper. Four parts are hard to copy.

  1. Movement. Copies run Seagull ST19, modified Valjoux 7750 or generic quartz movements. A genuine 2015 uses calibre 1861. A genuine 2020 uses calibre 3861 with a Co-Axial escapement.
  2. Caseback. The 2020 model has a moving Snoopy and Earth disc driven by the movement. Copies print a flat image on the sapphire or on a metal plate.
  3. Dial print. Font weight, subdial spacing, hand length and lume color are points of difference. The Snoopy medallion in the 9 o'clock subdial is a common tell.
  4. Numbers and papers. The 2015 reference is individually numbered. Copies carry generic numbers, and warranty cards do not match the case serial.

Price, warranty and legal facts

Genuine Silver Snoopy references trade above original retail on the secondary market. Auction records are public. A four-figure price for a 2020 Silver Snoopy points to a copy, not a bargain.

Omega does not service or sell parts for counterfeit watches. Resale value for a replica is close to zero. Under US law, counterfeit goods are illegal to import and are subject to seizure by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Selling counterfeit watches also violates US trademark law.

Checks before any purchase

  • Match the case serial to the warranty card and the limited-edition number
  • Watch the caseback disc rotate on the 2020 model
  • Time the chronograph and check the reset to zero
  • Ask for service records from an Omega service center
  • Confirm the reference number on the caseback against the model year
