Short answer
The Portugieser 30 is not an IWC model. IWC does not sell a watch with that name. Reference numbers in the Portugieser line run in the IW37xxx, IW35xxx, IW50xxx and IW54xxx blocks. The "30" in a seller title is a label, not a catalog number. It refers to a case width in millimeters, an internal batch code, or a search term added to match queries. Ask the seller what the number means before paying.
What the real Portugieser line uses
IWC introduced the Portugieser in 1939. Current models cover four common builds:
- Portugieser Chronograph: 41.0 mm case, 13.1 mm thickness, calibre 69355, 46-hour power reserve, 28,800 vph.
- Portugieser Automatic 40: 40.4 mm case, calibre 82200, 60-hour power reserve.
- Portugieser Automatic 42: 42.3 mm case, calibre 52010, 168-hour power reserve.
- Portugieser Chronograph Classic: 42.0 mm case, calibre 89361, 68-hour power reserve.
No model in that list carries a 30 suffix. A 30 mm Portugieser does not exist in the catalog.
What replica listings call a 30
Sellers reuse numbers for reasons that have nothing to do with IWC. Three cases are common.
- Case diameter. A listing describes a 39 mm or 40 mm case as part of a "30" series.
- Batch code. Factories mark runs with letters and digits (V2, ZF, APS, 30).
- Search filler. A number gets added to catch search strings.
Replica Portugieser chronographs run a 7750-based automatic movement or a Seagull ST19 hand-wound movement. Case thickness on those builds lands at 14 mm to 15 mm. The genuine 41 mm chronograph measures 13.1 mm. That 1 mm to 2 mm gap shows up with calipers.
Specs to verify in writing
- Movement name and beat rate. The 7750 family runs at 28,800 vph. The ST19 runs at 21,600 vph.
- Case diameter and thickness in millimeters, not "approx".
- Crystal material. Sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides, or mineral glass.
- Water resistance as a number. "Waterproof" alone states nothing.
- Caseback engraving. Reference number, serial, and calibre.
Price and legal facts
Most online replica Portugieser listings fall between $200 and $600. Prices under $120 point to a quartz movement or a 21,600 vph mechanical. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit watches at ports of entry. U.S. law bars import of goods that carry counterfeit marks. Seized goods are destroyed and buyers get no refund. Payment methods differ in chargeback rights, and no seller controls customs inspection.
