IW371775 is not a reference IWC publishes. IWC catalogs list the Portugieser Chronograph under numbers such as IW371446, IW371605 and IW371617. The IW3717 prefix belongs to the older Portugieser Chronograph case family, so sellers use IW371775 as a listing label for a replica built to that shape. Treat the number as a seller code, not a factory code.

What the genuine watch is

The Portugieser Chronograph measures 41 mm across and 13.1 mm thick in steel. Versions made from 2010 to 2020 ran about 12 mm thick. Front and back crystals are sapphire. Water resistance is 30 m. The dial carries two vertical subdials: a 30-minute counter at 12 and small seconds at 6. Hands are feuille shaped. Numerals are applied.

Current production uses IWC calibre 69355, an automatic column wheel chronograph with a 46-hour power reserve. The earlier version used calibre 79350, a modified Valjoux 7750, with a 44-hour reserve. Retail on the steel model is about $8,000.

What replica listings describe

  • 41 mm case in 316L stainless steel
  • Asian 7750 or Swiss 7750 movement
  • Sapphire or mineral crystal
  • Printed or applied numerals, tier dependent

A 7750-based movement explains the subdial layout. The 7750 uses a 30-minute counter and a running seconds hand, which matches the 12 and 6 positions on the Portugieser dial.

Points to check on a listing

  • Subdial positions at 12 and 6, stacked vertical
  • Case thickness. A chronograph movement plus case back needs 12 mm or more
  • Caseback stamps. Reference, serial and calibre marks
  • Strap material. Genuine watches ship on alligator leather

Legal status in the US

Counterfeit watches are prohibited goods. Under 19 U.S.C. 1526, merchandise bearing a counterfeit trademark may not be imported into the United States. CBP seizes and destroys such shipments. Selling a replica as genuine is trademark infringement and carries civil damages. IWC does not service or authenticate replicas, and no authorized dealer will take one in for repair.

Service and resale

A replica holds no resale value. Parts supply depends on the movement. A 7750 clone takes standard ETA 7750 parts in most cases, and independent watchmakers can source them. Crystals and gaskets are cut for the case, so those parts come from the seller. Movement service on a clone costs less than service on calibre 69355, which IWC performs at its own service centers.
