What a replica IW329055 is
A replica IW329055 is a copy of an IWC Pilot's Watch. The base reference is IW3290. The final two digits mark a dial and strap variant. IWC's own product page is the source for the case size, calibre and dial on that exact variant. Reseller pages list different figures, so check the number against IWC before you pay.
Prices on the replica market run from about $80 to $600. Cost tracks the movement, the case finish and the dial print. Most listings sit between $200 and $350.
What the genuine watch gives the copyist
The IWC Pilot's Watch line shares one design language: black dial, white Arabic numerals, a triangle with two dots at 12 o'clock, a date window at 3 o'clock, a screw-down crown, and a sapphire crystal. Cases use 316L stainless steel. Diameters in the line run from 36 mm to 43 mm, so measure the watch you are offered.
Movements used in replicas
- Miyota 8215 or 9015. The 9015 beats at 28,800 vph.
- Seagull ST21 or an Asian ETA 2824-2 clone. 25 jewels, 28,800 vph, about 38 to 40 hours of reserve.
- Sellers claim a Swiss ETA 2824-2 or a Sellita SW300-1. Ask for a photo of the movement and the rotor engraving.
For the genuine references in this range, IWC lists the calibre 35111, reported to sit on a Sellita SW300-1 base with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a 42-hour reserve, or the newer 32110. Replica movements do not match IWC service intervals.
Flaws buyers check first
- Crystal coating. The genuine crystal carries anti-reflective coating on both faces. Copies often coat one side and show a blue or purple cast.
- Dial print. "INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO." sits above centre, "SCHAFFHAUSEN" below. Letter spacing and stroke weight vary on copies.
- Date font. The date wheel at 3 o'clock should match the weight of the dial print.
- Lume. Genuine dials use Super-LumiNova. Lower grade paint fades in 20 to 30 minutes.
- Case back. Engraving depth, font and serial layout.
- Strap and bracelet. End-link fit on steel versions. Stitch line and leather grade on the Santoni-style straps.
What to ask a seller
- Photos of the actual watch, not stock images.
- A movement photo that shows the balance and the rotor.
- Case diameter and lug width in millimetres.
- Water resistance test result. Most replicas are not tested, and ISO 22810 testing does not apply to them.
Costs after the sale
IWC does not service replica movements. A watchmaker who works on ETA clones can clean and regulate one for $80 to $150. Gaskets and a crown replacement cost extra. IWC does not sell calibre parts to the public.
Legal position in the US
A counterfeit watch carries a trademark owned by another company. US Customs and Border Protection can seize shipments, and the importer can face civil penalties under 19 U.S.C. 1526. That is the rule in the US market, not a comment on any seller.
